Event-Driven Enhanced Coverage for Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are often used to monitor the interested field and provide enough accurate or precise data when events are happening. In this paper, we pro posed a scheduling algorithm, EDEC (Event-Driven En hanced Coverage), specifically for sensing units, which can reduce the sensing redundancy to prolong the network life time while assuring the original coverage as well as provid ing all potentials on accuracy and precision when events are happening. Our algorithm can be integrated with many ex isting communicating protocols. Simulation results show that EDEC can be easily integrated with different commu nication protocols, and optimize the energy consumption of sensing units.
