Under the utility deregulation utility customers can operate on-site generation facilities in parallel with a local utility grid to minimize their energy expenses. The energy storage units can be added into these facilities to further reduce energy costs. This paper studies the mathematical model for the optimal operation of an energy storage unit installed in an on-site generation facility. The proposed model has been developed so that it can be incorporated in the stochastic production costing model that uses the modified Gaussian distribution of a load and a binomial distribution of on-site generation and utility
